This 6″ Wide Fiberglass Mesh Drywall Joint Tape by MAK is a specialized reinforcement tool designed for larger repair projects and high-stress areas. Its extra-wide profile provides double the coverage of standard tapes, making it an essential choice for patching holes and reinforcing large cracks in drywall and plaster.
Product Overview
The MAK 6-inch mesh tape measures 6 inches wide by 70 feet long. This unique width is engineered to bridge larger gaps and provide a more stable base for joint compounds on damaged surfaces. Like its narrower counterparts, it features a self-adhesive backing for a “dry” application that saves time and labor.
Key Features
-
Extra-Wide 6″ Profile: Provides maximum surface area coverage, perfect for bridging large cracks or patching oversized holes in one go.
-
Self-Adhesive Design: Sticks directly to the wall surface, eliminating the need for a pre-coat of compound and preventing tape shifting during application.
-
Open-Mesh Construction: The fiberglass weave allows air to flow through, preventing the common bubbles and blisters associated with paper tapes.
-
Superior Strength: High-tensile fiberglass fibers offer excellent resistance to shifting and cracking, ensuring a permanent repair.
Best Use Cases
| Application | Why it Works |
| Large Hole Repair | The 6″ width is ideal for spanning small-to-medium holes in drywall without needing backer pieces. |
| Butt Joint Reinforcement | Provides a broader reinforcement zone for non-tapered (butt) joints to minimize future cracking. |
| Corner Reinforcement | Excellent for stabilizing corners or edges that have suffered significant structural impact. |
| Plaster Restoration | Wide enough to bridge spiderweb cracks in old plaster walls, providing a unified surface for skimming. |

Application Tip
Because of the 6-inch width, this tape is most effective when used with setting-type joint compounds. Apply the tape over the damaged area, press firmly, and then apply a “feathering” coat of mud that extends at least 2–3 inches past the edge of the tape to ensure a smooth, invisible transition into the rest of the wall.
